Instruction Update
June 24, 2024
I hope the summer is going well, with a few well-deserved breaks. During this time, the College continues to focus on enrollment growth, enhance program plans, fill needed positions, and solidify our administrative team.
Our planning has been developed within the context of improving equitable educational opportunities for our students comparable to those received at our neighboring colleges and universities.
This fall, Chaffey will be introducing the return of evening classes, support services, and the establishment of an evening dean’s office. These additions are designed to provide more flexibility and support for our students, allowing them to balance their academic and personal commitments more effectively. In order to ensure this area is staffed sufficiently, I have named Matt Morin to serve as the College’s interim evening dean. In addition to his work in Arts, Communication & Design and Work Experience, Matt will be on campus when classes and services are scheduled.
Additionally, I am assigning Rob Rundquist to serve as the dean for the Public Service, Culture & Society academic and career community. Rob, who has served as interim for this role for several months, has demonstrated his commitment to our students, faculty, and staff. His appointment as dean ensures a smooth transition, and he will continue to focus on the academic and career needs of our community. He will also continue to lead the Guided Pathways efforts. Furthermore, Rob will continue to support Institutional Research until the new Executive Director position is filled over the summer.
Michael McClellan will resume direct oversight of Institutional Effectiveness, with the Dean of Instructional Support Andrew Long overseeing Curriculum and PSR.
In early July, I will send another email regarding upcoming changes in Student Services and the College’s initial plans to enhance student life. All three campuses will focus on ways to make the College a place that not only supports students but also motivates them to meet their academic and career objectives. I look forward to the exciting work that we will accomplish together!
Best,
Henry D. Shannon, Ph.D.
